Vanguard Rogue GuideOverviewCreation GuideRacesCombatUtilityKnown Abilities/ToolsNews/InformationLinks I. OverviewThe rogue is primarily an offensive fighter and damage dealer. Rogues gain a large damage bonus from remaining stealthed during combat. Rogues will also have a utility role with lock picking, crowd control, trap removal and pick pocketing. II. Combat1. Weapons and ArmorRogues wear medium armor, can dual wield, and can use any one handed weapon, bow or throwing weapons. 2. StealthAttacks while stealthed cause more damage. Sigil intends for rogues to stay in stealth for most, if not all, group combat. As long as the rogue does not get aggro, he will remain stealthed. Rogues are able to stalk their targets prior to attacking, (or during a fight if the rogue is not attacking) giving the rogue an accuracy bonus. Targeting the mob within a close distance and not attacking it, builds up this accuracy bonus. Accuracy bonuses add increased damage to the attack.3. Regaining Stealth during combatThe rogue can regain stealth during combat, if she does not have aggro, by using her abilities to distract the mob. By using abilities such as Flash Powder, the rogue can distract the mob(s) so they don’t perceive her, thereby allowing her to regain stealth.4. Stealth and Perception MechanicsVanguard NPC’s have a perception and aggro radius. Their perception radius is generally larger than their agro radius. What this means is a mob might perceive you and break your stealth, but it will not attack you if you are outside of its aggro radius. 5. Opportunities, weaknesses and critical hit pointsThe perception skill and the intelligence attribute help the rogue find and exploit enemy weaknesses during combat. When a rogue spots and attacks an enemy weakness it is intended that he will be able to cause a massive amount of damage. Rogues build up critical hit points on mobs and exploit these points by using their assassinate attack ability. Multiple rogues can work together to build up points faster.6. Skill PoolA rogue will have certain ability pools. Each ability pool will have skills. There will not be enough points to maximize all abilities. Perception and stealth are in the same ability pool, therefore rogues must choose between putting points into perception or the stealth skill pool. 7. AttributesRogues will place attribute points into strength, intelligence, dexterity and agility. Strength will add to melee damage and is considered the primary rogue ability. Intelligence adds to the ability to spot threats and weaknesses, while dexterity and agility affect combat performance and survival. Sigil wants you to have a tough choice in placing your attribute points.8. Crowd ControlRogues will be able to incapacitate one or more opponents prior to a fight, possibly similar to the World of Warcraft rogues' Sap ability.9. Player SkillDarrin McPherson, Senior Game Designer of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, wants rogues to require more skill to play than other classes. He said it will "take a higher level of class knowledge and skill to fully utilize the capabilities of the Rogue.” The full interview can be found at The Safehouse. V. Utility1. Utility ItemsRogues can obtain a great number of utility items which are worthless to other classes but essential to playing a Rogue. These items can be used separately, as crafting components for rogue abilities or poisons, or as a reagent for certain Rogue abilities. 2. PickpocketingRogues will be able to obtain utility items from NPC’s by pick pocketing them. It is planned that pick pocketing will only obtain utility items and not coin or other valuable loot. Sigil has discussed the idea of placing some high loot/ high risk pickpocket NPCs in game, but they don’t want to unbalance classes by allowing Rogues to become much richer by pick pocketing. 3. Lock PickingRogues will be able to pick locked doors and chests.4. TrapsRogues will be able to detect and disarm traps.5. Crafting InterdependenceSome Rogue-created items may be enhanced by adding crafter-created components. High level or rare abilities will sometimes require crafter created components.6. ClimbingClimbing is not intended to be in the game until after release.7. Thieves GuildMight be integrated into questing or diplomacy in some form.VI. Known Rogue abilities and tools
